Former NHL'er flies in to join the Steelers

September 8, 2010

The Linked 2 Success Sheffield Steelers have today received a major boost ahead of the Dundee Stars visit to the Arena on Saturday (7.00pm face-off), with news that former Florida Panthers winger Rob Globke has received his clearance to enter the UK.

Globke, 27, was a round two pick in the 2002 NHL draft and has moved to Yorkshire after a season in Germany with the Krefeld Penguins.

Steelers head coach Ben Simon said: "I'm excited to finally get Rob here to bolster the team even more and to show our fans how serious we are about putting an entertaining, hard working team on the ice every game. The fans are in for a real treat this weekend against Dundee and Cardiff."

A right-winger, the left-shooter made 46 appearances for the Florida Panthers in the National Hockey League between 2005 and 2008, then moved on to the Rochester Americans in the AHL before heading to Europe for the 2008/09 season with Frederikshavn White Hawks in Denmark.

Globke flies into Manchester tomorrow (Thursday) ahead of the weekend's games against Dundee and the Cardiff Devils in Wales on Sunday.

He joins his new team-mates looking to kick-on from the excellent start they made to the new Elite League season last weekend, where they picked up a 5-1 win at home to Cardiff and a 6-0 victory on the road against Elite league new-boys Dundee Stars on Sunday.

Tickets for the Dundee game are now on sale priced at 16.00 for an adult, 10.50 for a concession and 5.00 for an under 16. Tickets can be purchased via sheffieldsteelers.co.uk.
