Russell Cowley hopes his 600th appearance in all Rapid Solicitors Elite League competitions coincides with a return to winning ways for Genting Casino Coventry Blaze.
The 30-year-old, in his 12th season at the Skydome, will become only the fifth player to reach that milestone when Blaze head to Nottingham Panthers on Saturday night.
Cowley will follow Sheffield Steelers quartet Jonathan Phillips, Phil Hill, Jason Hewitt and Mark Thomas in the 600-club but is determined to make it a double celebration.
He said: "I didn’t realise I was only one away until I saw it tweeted out this week. Hopefully it can be the perfect night and perfect weekend with four points.
"We need to turn the tide and it is all about our mindset. We have shown what we are capable of and what we can do against the top teams.
"We will be missing a few guys in Nottingham. Any time you miss Adam Henrich it is a blow, he is one of the top scorers in the league. Matt Selby is also starting to get more ice time and make a bigger impact in a power-forward role.
"But we have been in this situation before. We need to play smart and guys have to step up and deliver and I include myself in that, I know I must contribute and be better.
"Against Cardiff at home on Sunday we owe our fans a 60-minute display. It is our job to deliver 60 minutes for them and to produce a good game. If we put consistent 60-minute games together we will start getting some success."
