Cardiff Devils 3 Belfast Giants 4

September 5, 2010

Both teams went into this one looking for their first win having lost their opening fixtures last night. Belfast though did have the consolation of picking up a point in their penalty shot loss at Nottingham.

It was the visitors who set the early pace as they took a two goal lead with just five minutes on the clock. Jon Gleed had the puck in the Cardiff net with only 45 seconds on the clock and then Mark Garside doubled the Giants lead with a powerplay strike at 4.58.

However the hosts came bouncing back and had the game level by the end of the period. Max Birbraer with a strike at 13.42 saw the home side pull one back. Then five minutes later Kenton Smith fired home at 18.40 to tie the game at two apiece.

Neither team was given anything away in the second period. Chances were being created at either end but it took until 35.22 for Tim Cook to put the visitors back in front with a powerplay goal. But back came the Devils and it was player/coach Gerad Adams who levelled matters at 38.20.

Either team could have got the vital goal in the third period as both sides went for the win. But it was Brett Hemmigway, who ended the scoring with his second goal of the weekend by counting at 49.12.
